Originally slated to begin construction later this year, additional review from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) puts that date in jeopardy. The city is currently in discussions with the FAA on a timeline to develop a plan
The $650 million facility is designed to hold 10 natural gas generators producing 400 MW of electricity to meet growing demand and sustainability goals. When fully complete, it will also house a 100 MW battery energy storage system, related infrastructure and a service center. The land the project sits on was purchased in 2020 for $2.2 million.
