Auric Gallery Blends Art, Business, and Collaboration in Downtown Colorado Springs

Auric Gallery hosts an ever expanding series of events. First Friday, pictured here, draws 100 people.

Auric Gallery in downtown Colorado Springs is a contemporary art gallery focusing on local and regional up-and-coming artists. The co-owners and co-curators, Abigail Kreuser and Gundega Stevens, merged their separate galleries to create Auric: a space for artistic expression, art admiration and good business.

The gallery’s name is derived from their children’s names and the Latin word for gold, aurum. It is a deeply personal touch to a business they take very personally.

Stevens opened G44 Gallery in Colorado Springs in 2012. She holds a master’s degree in art history and dreamed of having her own gallery. Kreuser’s passion for the arts and fine art photography led her to create a space for artists to express themselves, gather and celebrate. Kreuser Gallery opened in 2003. Kreuser and Stevens both operated successfully for many years and over those years became good friends.

The Art Gallery with a Golden Touch

When the opportunity arose, they began Curate Your Space, which offers personalized art curation services for homes and businesses. In collaboration with the client, Stevens and Kreuser help select and install artwork that meets criteria and desired atmosphere.

“We love it,” Stevens says enthusiastically. “We come to your house. We can find the perfect piece of art for one wall or for your entire house.”

Their curatorial approach, done together from selection to installation, aims to tell a cohesive visual story that reflects the artist’s intent and the gallery’s high aesthetic standards.

“Each gallery, they have their own style and flair and different ideas of who they’re going to represent,” says Stevens.

The success of Curate Your Space led to their business philosophy of collaboration, not competition. The process was stressful, Kreuser admits. Merging was rebranding, reorganizing and redesigning workflows all at the same time. Uniting the two galleries into one has streamlined operations, reduced redundancy, lowered operating costs, expanded their reach and improved the business.

“We’ve just become stronger,” says Kreuser. The only regret about the merger is not doing it sooner. The main struggle the gallery faces is rising costs.

Auric hosts monthly exhibitions, special events, presentations and pop-up markets, and the gallery is available to rent as a meeting or private event space.

    What is Auric Gallery?

Auric Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in downtown Colorado Springs, co-owned by curators Abigail Kreuser and Gundega Stevens. It showcases local and regional artists while blending art, business, and community collaboration.

    How did Auric Gallery form?

Kreuser and Stevens merged their successful, long-running galleries — Kreuser Gallery and G44 Gallery — to form Auric. Their partnership emphasizes collaboration over competition, resulting in streamlined operations and stronger business growth.

What services does Auric Gallery offer?

In addition to monthly exhibitions, events, and pop-up markets, Auric runs Curate Your Space — a personalized art curation service for homes and businesses. The gallery also rents its space for private events and meetings.

    Why is Auric Gallery unique?

The gallery treats curation as an art in itself, telling a cohesive story through every exhibition. Kreuser and Stevens describe curation as “the last chapter of the artist’s book,” tying the artist’s vision together for audiences.

    Where is Auric Gallery located?

Auric Gallery is at 125 E. Boulder St., Colorado Springs.

Where else can people find Auric Gallery?

To reach new markets, Auric added a satellite location at Ross Studios (2712 North Gate Blvd.) and expanded online with a digital store.

    Beyond the Gallery Walls

Owning a small business in the visual arts field is a labor of love, according to Kreuser and Stevens. Economic downturns severely affect galleries.

“The art world is very dependent on the economy. The beginning of the year was really rough because the economy wasn’t stable … a lot of people stopped buying. Art is considered a luxury,” says Kreuser. This led to Auric Gallery pivoting. To reach northern markets, the gallery opened a satellite location in Ross Studios, 2712 North Gate Blvd., and an online store. Auric also hosts an ever-expanding slate of events such as workshops, art classes, artist talks, dinners and other experiences. The expanded offerings support and enhance the core of the gallery, the art shows and the curation that goes into them.
