Pueblo Airport Welcomes New Partnership, Facility Upgrades

Travelers in Southern Colorado will soon have a more dependable and streamlined option for regional air travel, as Pueblo Memorial Airport announced a new partnership with Denver Air Connection. The transition marks a significant shift in the airport’s long-term vision for growth, connectivity and customer experience.

Beginning May 1, Denver Air Connection will take over flight services between Pueblo and Denver, replacing the outgoing Southern Airways Express, which operated nine-seat Pilatus aircrafts for the past three years. The new partner will introduce larger jet aircraft, 30-seat and 50-seat configurations, flying twice daily between Pueblo and Denver International Airport (DIA).

The new service will also feature interline agreements with Delta, United and American Airlines, meaning travelers can book full itineraries directly through these carriers’ websites. This allows passengers to fly out of Pueblo, connect at DIA and reach national or international destinations without the hassle of booking separate flights.

The benefits extend beyond Pueblo residents. Communities in La Junta, Lamar, Walsenburg and Cañon City stand to gain from a more accessible and convenient travel hub. The airport’s vision includes becoming a regional connector, reducing the need to drive to Denver for commercial flights. “For many of us, flying can already be exhausting,” says Greg Pedroza, director of Aviation. “If you can land back home in Pueblo instead of facing a two-hour drive from DIA, that’s a game changer.”

To support the new airline service and rising passenger demand, Pueblo Memorial Airport is also undergoing facility upgrades. These include:

  • Updated interior furnishings
  • Terminal renovations
  • Potential expansion of the passenger hold room
  • Exterior improvements

While the airport’s charm is often cited by locals, officials acknowledge the need to modernize. “We want our facilities to reflect the level of service we’re bringing in,” Pedroza says. “It’s about creating a space that feels both comfortable and efficient.”

In tandem with these upgrades, the airport has issued an open concession opportunity for local entrepreneurs. The former restaurant space, previously operated by Pete’s, remains available, and officials are encouraging diverse business models.

Rather than limit the space to a traditional eatery, the airport envisions a multi-purpose concession area that could include grab-and-go food, coffee, local merchandise and other travel essentials. “We’re calling it a concession to stay flexible,” Pedroza notes. “We want to hear creative proposals that enhance the traveler experience.”

Ultimately, the airport’s goals are centered on growth, accessibility and community connection. Officials hope that more residents, from Pueblo and nearby counties, will see Pueblo Memorial Airport as a viable and attractive alternative to DIA.
