    New Affordable Apartment Development Could Transform Eastern Manitou Avenue

    A new apartment building hasn’t been constructed in Manitou Springs in more than 50 years. But soon a community designed specifically to be affordable will rise on a vacant tract near the east end of Manitou Avenue.

    The development, currently referred to as 123 Manitou after its street address, will fulfill a crucial need for affordable housing in Manitou, where many retail and restaurant workers, city employees, teachers, artists and families with children in Manitou schools can’t afford to live, says Electra Johnson, executive director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) Board and owner of Electra Johnson Design + Planning.
