A Minneapolis development company has acquired 18.2 acres in Peak Innovation Park where it has started construction on Forge at Peak Innovation, a two-building, 252,890-square-foot speculative industrial project.
Opus, a group of commercial real estate development, design and construction companies, plans to complete the project by the end of this year and is targeting defense contractors, aerospace and distribution firms as tenants says Eric Chamberlian, senior director of real estate development for Opus in the Denver office. The site is adjacent to a FritoLay distribution center near Powers Boulevard.
“We’re very excited to be building a differentiated offering in Colorado Springs and to be building what we anticipate will be a long-term relationship with city and economic development leaders there,” Chamberlain said in a company news release.
Forge is Opus’ first project in Colorado Springs, but the company has developed more than two dozen industrial, multifamily and senior housing projects in the Denver area since 2006. Started as Rauenhorst Group in 1953, the firm was renamed Opus in 1982 and has completed more than 3,300 projects. It also operates offices in Austin, Texas; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Des Moines, Iowa; Indianapolis, Kansas City, Mo., and Phoenix.
