Energy Resource Center Launches ‘Pay It Forward’ Program to Expand Home Efficiency Services

    0
By Keri Kahn on December 1, 2025 Business Insights
The Energy Resource Center provides no-cost services like wall, attic and crawlspace insulation for low-income families through a grant administered by the State of Colorado’s Energy Office.

According to the Pikes Peak Housing Network’s 2024 Housing Data Report for El Paso County, at the current median household income, 34% of residents are cost-burdened because they spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs, including insurance and utilities.

Mike Mazzola is director of programs for the Energy Resource Center (ERC), which provides free energy-efficient upgrades to income-qualified homes. He says it’s often people with lower incomes who live in older, less efficient homes and therefore have higher utility bills than people with higher incomes and more efficient homes.
