    The highest tariff rates since the late 1800s are impacting the U.S. economy, Dr. Bill Craighead, director of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Economic Forum, said during his annual forecast.

    “The U.S. economy has taken some blows and is still on its feet, but staggering,” Craighead told business and civic leaders during the event’s 29th annual forecast event Oct. 2 at the Ent Center for the Arts. Combined with stubborn inflation, especially in prices for services, tariffs have “distorted the market significantly and lead to resources not being directed to their best use, and making the economy slightly smaller.”
